Then she’s off to the next fan. It’s not transactional, but there are so many fans waiting for her, lining the lower level of Gampel Pavilion in Storrs, Connecticut. 
 
But there’s more to her than that. She’s skilled at controlling her emotions and not revealing exactly what is on her mind. She conceals the past that played out in public for years: Her life could have been a Netflix medical drama series.
 
Basketball has taken her around the world on a ride to stardom, where she reached the pinnacle of winning a national championship, and devastating injuries that kept her off the court for lengthy stretches of her career. 
 
Fudd never anticipated the lows. The French have a saying, “c'est la vie,” which translates to “such is life.” While she may not know French, her life has felt like a roller coaster, and often she didn’t recognize who the person was in the mirror as she faced injuries.  
 
Without a basketball by her side, she plunged into a black sea of despair. Her emotions and self-doubt were pulling her down. Family, friends, her love of the game, and optimism would help her bounce back.
